MEDEK is a therapeutic approach that is utilized with children who have motor delays. Practitioners receive intensive training and education from Ramon Cuevas, the creator of MEDEK. MEDEK works to stimulate automatic reactions through gravitational, vestibular, and equilibrium responses. Therapy using the MEDEK approach focuses on training movements leading to functional gains such as sitting, standing and walking. Muscles are trained in postural and functional tasks rather than in isolation. Tight muscles are stretched in dynamic situations. The MEDEK practitioner provides concrete guidelines to stimulate babies in a safe way from two months of age. Therapy is accomplished through parent therapist teamwork. The therapist provides parent education and daily exercises to be practiced at home.
